To mark its 80th anniversary, the Landesbühnen Sachsen will be presenting 24 premieres and a special exhibition in the coming season. "80 years of Landesbühnen Sachsen show how theater has accompanied, commented on and helped shape social change over the decades," said Manuel Schöbel, artistic director and managing director, according to a press release. In the new season, highly topical material and participatory formats will create lively venues throughout Saxony.
The premiere schedule for the new season ranges from classics such as "The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" by William Shakespeare to contemporary productions such as the opera "The Lion's Face" as a German-language premiere. The play "Blueprint" by Leo Lorena Wyss will kick off the festival.
The Landesbühnen are celebrating their anniversary with a special exhibition and a festive supporting program on 27 September. Johannes Frohnsdorf joins as the new head dramaturge from Chemnitz Municipal Theatre, where he helped set up the Capital of Culture project "Rummelplatz".
