A Herrnhut star has been shining on Dresden's Frauenkirche church during Advent for 20 years now. Now there is a special edition of the popular Christmas decoration.

Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer has received the first Herrnhut star from the "Frauenkirche Dresden" edition. "The Herrnhut stars and the Frauenkirche are both treasures of our cultural identity," he said at the presentation ceremony, according to a statement. They combine Saxon craftsmanship and faith.

Since 2004, a yellow star has adorned the outside of the Frauenkirche during Advent, while a second star with a white light symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem hangs inside. The new edition expresses the "special bond with this place of faith and reconciliation", says Katja Ruppert, Managing Director of Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH. The colors yellow and white stand for peace and confidence. The stars will be available from December 2 at the Frauenkirche and Herrnhuter Sterne sales outlets.
