The large mineral collection in Freiberg is a feast for the eyes. Crystals and precious stones sparkle everywhere. Now the show is to be spruced up.

The "Terra Mineralia" mineral collection in Freiberg is set to shine in new splendor. The collection team is planning to modernize the exhibition concepts and infrastructure, expand digital communication formats and integrate current research projects into the presentation, according to the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. At the same time, international networking is to be further strengthened - in line with Freiberg's role as a globally anchored science location.

Long-term retention of the exhibits in Freiberg secured

The Bergakademie and the Pohl-Ströher-Mineralienstiftung supplemented the contract for the existing permanent loan. "The globally unique mineral collection will remain permanently at the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, which is internationally renowned as the center for geosciences, mining and modern raw materials research," it said. This will further strengthen the city's role as an international hotspot for these future-oriented fields.

The foundations for success were laid back in 2004 with the permanent loan agreement. Since then, around 3,500 minerals, gemstones and meteorites from the foundation have formed the heart of the exhibition at Freudenstein Castle and the "Mineralogical Collection Germany" in the Krügerhaus on Schlossplatz. More than one million guests have seen exhibitions since then.
