The first parts of the Dresden Giant Stollen have been completed. According to the Dresden Stollen Protection Association, 275 of the so-called stollen slabs were produced at the weekend for the calorie-rich XXL pastry. The 60 x 40 centimeter slabs weigh seven kilograms and are to be assembled into a giant stollen. It will then be around 2.80 meters long and 1.40 meters wide. At the Stollen Festival on December 6, it will be driven through the city in a kind of procession and then cut at the Striezelmarkt. The proceeds go to a social cause.
Giant stollen as a symbol of the community of Dresden bakers
"The giant stollen is not just a cherished tradition for us, but a real centerpiece of our association's work. It stands for everything that defines our community: passion, craftsmanship and a strong sense of togetherness," explained master baker Andreas Wippler, head of the association. The Dresdner Christstollen brand lives from the special bond between the local stollen bakers. Nowhere is this more visible than in this joint effort.
