Alongside the Dresdner Kreuzchor and the Thomanerchor in Leipzig, Saxony has another renowned ensemble of this kind. The Dresdner Kapellknaben are now looking for newly composed music.

The Dresden Boys' Choir is holding a composition competition for the first time. "We are looking for choral music that will be heard by everyone, sung with joy by the choirs and received with enthusiasm by those attending the service," explained Cathedral Conductor Christian Bonath.

The competition was for a mass setting as an a cappella work for a four-part choir, which should be a maximum of twelve minutes long. The deadline for the compositions is June 2. The winning entry, which will be chosen by a jury, will be premiered in Dresden Cathedral on October 26. There is prize money of 2,500 euros.

Founded in 1709, the Dresden Boys' Choir consists of around 50 boys aged between 9 and 18. They perform in church services in Dresden Cathedral, but the Kapellknaben can also be seen in concerts.
