The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) brings together two influential artists from the turn of the century around 1900. Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) and Edvard Munch (1863-1944). From this Sunday until the end of May, around 150 works will be on display in the SKD's Albertinum, the art collections announced. The show brings together paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures, including works by Vincent van Gogh, Auguste Rodin and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
In addition to key works from the SKD's holdings, loans from the Munchmuseet Oslo and other international museums, foundations and private collections are also on display - many of them for the first time in Germany, according to the statement. The occasion is the 150th anniversary of Modersohn-Becker's death. She was born in Dresden on February 8, 1876 and, like Munch, is considered a pioneer of Expressionism.
The exhibition is subtitled "The big questions of life". The accompanying project "Life Letters" aims to connect past and present. Guests of the exhibition are invited to submit their own texts on their views on the big questions of life.
