The Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) suffered a drop in visitor numbers last year. A total of around 1.8 million visitors came to the various museums, around 460,000 fewer than in the previous year. The main reasons given were a decline in tourist numbers and restricted opening hours as a result of cost-cutting measures. Around 40 percent of visitors came from abroad. Revenue fell by 1.4 million euros to 12.6 million euros within a year. It is expected to grow again this year with higher admission prices.
However, the museum association is optimistic about the future. In view of the current budget situation, the organization and structure will be further developed in a targeted manner, said SKD General Director Bernd Ebert. They will not wait to see what allocations are made by the state, but will become active themselves. This means taking a close look at exhibitions, concentrating and setting priorities - but by no means losing quality. A number of attractive exhibitions are planned this year.
