The shoe manufacturer Birkenstock has taken over a production facility near Dresden. The net purchase price is 18 million euros, the company announced. The opportunity for the acquisition had arisen due to the insolvency of the previous owner. The "Handelsblatt", among others, had previously reported on this.
The facility reportedly comprises 78,000 square meters of production and logistics space. It is intended to accelerate the expansion of production capacities and be cheaper than a new building. It is planned that the factory will be in operation by the end of the 2027 financial year and will initially expand capacity for sandals, clogs and footbeds.
The company explained that it is also on the lookout for further production opportunities in the European Union. Birkenstock would not comment on further details at this time.
