The award-winning poet of U.S. President Joe Biden's inauguration, Amanda Gorman, and internationally acclaimed cellist Jan Vogler are collaborating for the first time. They will share a stage at New York's Carnegie Hall on Feb. 17, 2024, for an evening of spoken word and music, Vogler's management announced Thursday.
He is looking forward to the collaboration and to seeing "how her fascinating poems and inspiring food for thought change my interpretation of Bach's music," said the 59-year-old, who also plans to bring the project to Europe.
To dialogue with Bach's music, Jan and his cello is to "touch something timeless," Gorman said. This one "captures my heart and my imagination" and was written in the era when Vogler's Stradivarius was built.
Gorman had poignantly recited her poem "The Hill We Climb" at Biden's inauguration in January 2021, broadcast via cameras around the world. The then 22-year-old received international critical acclaim and inspired millions. Since then, the poet and Harvard graduate has been considered a star - and will make her debut at the famed concert hall that evening with Vogler.
