The Free State of Saxony is supporting 88 pond farms with around 4.3 million euros. The funds are intended to counteract the increasing drought and enable sustainable pond maintenance.

In the coming days, Saxon pond managers will receive the annually approved funding for pond management and nature conservation. According to the Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and the Economy, around 4.3 million euros will be paid out to 88 pond managers and nature conservation associations. The funded area covers a total of around 8,082 hectares. Funding will be provided for measures such as maintaining a certain fish stocking level, maintaining pond bottom vegetation and refraining from commercial recreational activities and fishing.

State Minister Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch emphasizes the importance of pond farming in Bavaria: "In addition to the economic benefits, the ponds also provide a habitat for many valuable and endangered aquatic plants, birds, insects and amphibians. We would like to support the pond farmers in Saxony in these efforts with our funding."
