A museum in Radebeul commemorates the Saxon writer Karl May and his books. His literary characters have now been brought to life by caricaturists - with ink and paper.

Caricaturists from German-speaking countries have put the famous characters from the stories of adventure writer Karl May on paper. Winnetou, Old Shatterhand and others from his Wild West cosmos "appear in the here and now or comment cheekily and freely on current events - whether in politics, society, the private sphere or the intimate sphere", the Karl May Museum announced.

Around 80 cartoons are on display in the exhibition "On the trail of wit - 150 years of Winnetou" until mid-October. The occasion is the appearance of the noble chieftain in May's early story "Old Firehand" from 1875.

May lived in Radebeul from 1888 until his death and wrote significant parts of his complete works there. The museum in his former home Villa Shatterhand, which May bought in 1895, and in Villa Bärenfett, which was built in 1926, commemorate this. It was opened in 1928 by his widow Klara with the collection of his Indian friend Patty Frank, which has been preserved to this day.
