Dresden is looking for more helpers for the super election year

The city of Dresden is still looking for electoral assistants for the super election year. The city announced on Thursday that around 5,000 volunteers have signed up so far. For the European and local elections on June 9 and the state elections on September 1, around 1,000 volunteers are still needed, according to the information. The need is particularly great in Bühlau/Weißer Hirsch, Leuben, Kleinzschachwitz, Großzschachwitz, Laubegast and Weixdorf. However, additional helping hands are also welcome in other districts - including for the postal vote count.

Anybody who is at least 18 years old on election day and has German citizenship or citizenship of another EU country can register. Only electoral assistants with German citizenship will be admitted to the state election. In addition, those interested must be eligible to vote and have had their main residence in Dresden for at least three months.

Those who register as election assistants also receive an expense allowance. This will be higher in the upcoming elections than in the past. In the European and local elections, there will be 95 to 140 euros depending on the role. There will be a long night of counting and the work will be correspondingly long. In the state elections, polling assistants will receive between 55 and 90 euros.

Accordingly, the appeal letters will be sent out from May. This will state where and in what capacity the assignment will take place. It will also be possible to register after that until the election days.
