The state parliament in Saxony convenes for its May plenary session. A wealth of topics are on the agenda for two days. Economics Minister Panter is the focus of the first day.

Saxony's new Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter (SPD) will make his first specialist government statement in the state parliament on Wednesday (from 10.00 a.m.). It is entitled "From crises to opportunities: How we are strengthening Saxony's economy today and positioning it for the future".

The SPD has held the Ministry of Economics and Labor since 2014, with Martin Dulig heading the department for ten years. The CDU had repeatedly claimed it for itself, but was unable to assert itself in the coalition negotiations.

At the request of the SPD parliamentary group, the state parliament's topical hour will then focus on the Free State's expectations of the new federal government. In the second topic, the Greens want to use planned cuts to the funding of memorials as an opportunity to talk about threats to democracy. The topic requested by the Left Party revolves around democracy education in schools.

Greens table motion for better early childhood education

Bills and motions will be discussed later. The Greens, for example, are tabling a motion for better early childhood education. The AfD wants to give new impetus to teacher training. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance is calling on the government to work in the Bundesrat to ensure that the borrowing of the federal states made possible by the Bundestag gets underway quickly. The Left Party is calling for a strategy against homelessness.

In the evening, the state parliament has to decide on the lifting of the immunity of Culture Minister Conrad Clemens (CDU). The background to this is a case at Weißwasser district court concerning a traffic offense. A debate on the case is not planned in parliament, but approval is considered certain. Immunity should generally be waived in the event of traffic violations.
