The Saxon state parliament begins its final deliberations on the double budget today (10.00). First, the individual budgets for the State Chancellery, the State Parliament and the Court of Audit will be adopted separately. This will be followed step by step by the ministries. The final vote is expected on Thursday evening.
Expenditure of around 25 billion euros planned
The double budget provides for expenditure of around 25 billion euros per year and could only be financed with a dip into reserves and austerity measures. As the minority coalition of CDU and SPD lacked ten votes for a majority in parliament, it had to rely on help from the opposition. An agreement was reached in negotiations with the Greens and the Left Party.
The two opposition parties succeeded in reversing cuts in areas such as social welfare, culture and nature conservation. All in all, the package of amendments amounts to around 250 million euros. All seven members of the Green Party intend to vote in favor of the double budget, while five of the six members of the Left Party have pledged their support.
