Bundesliga club RB Leipzig firmly believe that midfielder Xaver Schlager and goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi will stay until at least the summer. "I am very sure that there will be no winter transfer for both Pete and Xaver," said sporting director Marcel Schäfer at the training camp in Portugal, according to a club statement.
The contracts of both players expire in the summer. Recently, there had been reports that Italian club Juventus Turin were showing great interest in the 28-year-old striker. "I know Xaver's thoughts and private matters also play a role. It could be that we come together or that we realize that it doesn't fit. But: We would like to have clarity in January," explained Schäfer.
Schäfer: Gulacsi's age doesn't matter for now
The situation is similar with goalkeeper Gulacsi (35), with whom they are also in contact. "The decisive factor with Pete will also be what he envisions and what role he sees himself in. His age is irrelevant for now. But it's also clear that there will be a generational change in the goalkeeper position at some point," Schäfer clarified. According to reports, Gulacsi wants to stay in Leipzig.
