Pulsnitz is something like the capital of gingerbread in Saxony. The delicacy is not only baked here at Christmas time. Fans can stock up at the gingerbread market.

If you like gingerbread, you can have a sweet tooth all year round. At the opening of the Pulsnitz gingerbread market, lovers of the high-calorie pastries stocked up for Christmas and the rest of the year. Saxony's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Barbara Klepsch (CDU), was closely surrounded at the opening of the market and took a few samples herself. "This is tradition, this is craftsmanship, this is enjoyment and passion - all of this blends together," said the minister. Pulsnitz is therefore also a magnet for tourism in the Free State.

More than 100 traders present their wares

More than 100 traders will be presenting their wares at the market, which has been held since 2003, until Sunday. And it's not just about the delicacies from the gingerbread shops. Ceramists, potters, woodworkers, blacksmiths and other traditional businesses from all over Saxony are also represented at the craft market around St. Nicolai's Church.

Pulsnitz is known throughout Germany for its gingerbread

"Pulsnitz is known throughout Saxony and Germany for its gingerbread. The gingerbread market, which is unique in Germany, has been attracting tens of thousands of visitors from near and far for over twenty years," emphasized Klepsch. The market is an example of how cultural heritage, quality craftsmanship and tourism can be combined.

Gingerbread has been baked in Pulsnitz for more than 450 years - according to traditional recipes, with care and a strong sense of quality. Eight gingerbread bakeries and a gingerbread factory continue this legacy to this day. They not only preserve the old art of baking, but also develop it further.
