Just before the summer break, Saxony's parliamentarians need to sit tight. For four days, the MPs will be debating. The double budget is also on the agenda.

The Saxon state parliament is facing a marathon session before the summer break. On Wednesday and Thursday, parliament will hold final discussions on the double budget. Today (from 10.00 a.m.), the focus will initially be on other topics. Nuclear power, the effects of the heat and research in the Free State will be debated in the topical hour. The parliamentary groups will then have to decide on several motions.

The AfD has requested that the recommissioning of shut-down nuclear power plants be examined. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance is calling for a ban on German arms exports to Israel. The Greens are addressing the participation of young people in political decision-making processes. The Left Party is calling for the federal government to assume all costs when tasks are transferred to local authorities.

A change package of around 250 million

With regard to the double budget, the CDU-SPD minority coalition had reached an agreement with the opposition factions of the Greens and the Left in the previous week. Both parliamentary groups had insisted on the withdrawal of some of the planned cuts, for example in the areas of social welfare, culture and nature conservation. As a result, there is now an amendment package worth around 250 million euros.

The CDU/CSU and SPD are ten votes short of a majority in parliament. They are therefore dependent on support from the opposition. The AfD is not participating in the so-called consultation mechanism set up for this purpose.
